Deubiquitinating enzymes (DUB) form a large family of cysteine protease that can deconjugate ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins from ubiquitin-conjugated proteins. All DUBs contain a catalytic domain surrounded by one or more subdomains, some of which contribute to target recognition.
