Entericidin

Entericidin
PFAM accession number:PF08085
Interpro abstract (IPR012556):

This family consists of the entericidin antidote/toxin peptides. The entericidin locus is activated in stationary phase under high osmolarity conditions by rho-S and simultaneously repressed by the osmoregulatory EnvZ/OmpR signal transduction pathway. The entericidin locus encodes tandem paralogous genes (ecnAB) and directs the synthesis of two small cell-envelope lipoproteins (EcnA and EcnB) which can maintain plasmids in bacterial population by means of post-segregational killing [ (PUBMED:9677290) ].

The product of the entericidin locus has been shown to have bactericidal activity against the fish pathogen Flavobacterium psychrophilum [ (PUBMED:25381243) ].

GO process:response to toxic substance (GO:0009636)
GO component:membrane (GO:0016020)
