MukE

MukE
PFAM accession number:PF04288
Interpro abstract (IPR007385):

MukE is involved in the segregation and condensation of prokaryotic chromosomes. MukE along with MukF ( IPR005582 ) interact with MukB ( IPR007406 ) in vivo forming a complex, which is required for chromosome condensation and segregation in Escherichia coli [ (PUBMED:10545099) ]. The Muk complex appears to be similar to the SMC-ScpA-ScpB complex in other prokaryotes where MukB is the homologue of SMC [ (PUBMED:12065423) ]. ScpA ( IPR003768 ) and ScpB ( IPR005234 ) have little sequence similarity to MukE or MukF, though they are predicted to be structurally similar, being predominantly alpha-helical with coiled coil regions.

GO process:chromosome segregation (GO:0007059), chromosome condensation (GO:0030261)
GO component:cytoplasm (GO:0005737)
