Interpro abstract (IPR003635):

Tachykinins [ (PUBMED:3284438) (PUBMED:1969374) (PUBMED:1324401) ] are a group of biologically active peptides which excite neurons, evoke behavioral responses, are potent vasodilatators and contract (directly or indirectly) many smooth muscles. This family includes neurokinin B (also known as Tachykinin-3), as well as many other peptides. Like other tachykinins, neurokinins are synthesized as larger protein precursors that are enzymatically converted to their mature forms. Neurokinin B is a critical central regulator of human gonadal function [ (PUBMED:19079066) ].

In humans, defect in Neurokinin B causes hypogonadotropic hypogonadism 10 with or without anosmia (HH10), which is a disorder characterised by absent or incomplete sexual maturation by the age of 18 years, in conjunction with low levels of circulating gonadotropins and testosterone and no other abnormalities of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis [ (PUBMED:19079066) ].

GO process:tachykinin receptor signaling pathway (GO:0007217)
