Pescadillo (PES) protein was first identified as an essential protein for zebrafish embryonic development [(PUBMED:8985183)]. It is conserved from yeasts to humans. Pescadillo homologues are involved in embryonic development and ribosome biogenesis [(PUBMED:19075239), (PUBMED:17727835)]. It has been linked to chromosomal instability and cancer [(PUBMED:15467761), (PUBMED:22860098)].
