TIM21

TIM21
PFAM accession number:PF08294
Interpro abstract (IPR013261):

Tim21 is an essential component of the TIM23 complex, which mediates the translocation of transit peptide-containing proteins across the mitochondrial inner membrane. Tim21 is required to keep the TOM and the TIM23 complexes in close contact. At some point, it is released from the TOM23 complex to allow protein translocation into the mitochondrial matrix [ (PUBMED:15797382) (PUBMED:15878866) (PUBMED:15797382) ].

GO process:protein import into mitochondrial matrix (GO:0030150)
GO component:TIM23 mitochondrial import inner membrane translocase complex (GO:0005744)
