Interpro abstract (IPR024886):

Bone marrow stromal antigen 2, also known as tetherin, is an antiretroviral defence protein, that blocks release of enveloped virus from the cell surface [ (PUBMED:18200009) (PUBMED:20686043) (PUBMED:20940320) ]. Bst2/tetherin contains two membrane anchors which are employed to retain some enveloped viruses, including HIV-1, tethered to the plasma membrane in the absence of virus encoded antagonists [ (PUBMED:20399176) ]. Its expression is induced by interferon-alpha [ (PUBMED:19032371) ] and was originally linked to B cell development [ (PUBMED:7607676) ].
