Ribosomal_S27

Ribosomal protein S27a
SMART ACC:SM001402
Description:This family of ribosomal proteins consists mainly of the 40S ribosomal protein S27a which is synthesised as a C-terminal extension of ubiquitin (CEP). The S27a domain compromises the C-terminal half of the protein. The synthesis of ribosomal proteins as extensions of ubiquitin promotes their incorporation into nascent ribosomes by a transient metabolic stabilisation and is required for efficient ribosome biogenesis PMID:2538753. The ribosomal extension protein S27a contains a basic region that is proposed to form a zinc finger; its fusion gene is proposed as a mechanism to maintain a fixed ratio between ubiquitin necessary for degrading proteins and ribosomes a source of proteins PMID:2538756.

InterPro abstract:

This entry represents the eS31 (also known as S27a) ribosomal domain from both archaea and eukaryotes. In eukaryotes, the 40S ribosomal protein eS31 is synthesized as a C-terminal extension of ubiquitin ( IPR000626 ), and this fusion protein is known as UBS27 [ PUBMED:16185873 expand

KEGG pathways involving proteins which contain this domain

This information is based on the mapping of SMART genomic protein database to KEGG orthologous groups. Percentages are related to the number of proteins containing a Ribosomal_S27 domain which could be assigned to a KEGG orthologous group, and not all proteins containing Ribosomal_S27 domains. Please note that proteins can be included in multiple pathways, ie. the numbers below will not add to 100%.
